2018 v10.politicorhetoric

I have just been having a fun discussion with my ol buddy, DB. I am sure he wont mind my sharing…

You make me smile,

Some passion in politics – with history and knowledge as well! damn! Did I say damn?
Damn!
There is much, too much passion in politics these days, but mostly without any knowledge or history. Just passion. Which basically when unguided becomes hysteria.
I see a lot of histrionics.
I believe it to be, in many ways, a class-thing. Simple, humble, working class folks had/ have different morals and sense of decency in comparison to the “elite”. Simple folks are too busy managing life. The Elite have leisure time with which to be evil. Power and corruption and that kind of thing.
Modern morals are confused. Family and marriage are no longer honoured institutions. Ours is a disposable society. Money, gain, status is way too important. Education levels and general respect- personal and public- are dangerously low.
I personally disagree that private = public when in elected office. One must always have “private” to be human.  If everything is or becomes public one becomes nothing more than a performing beast.
Enter, stage right, Mr DJ Trump.
And this BS has been going on too long, too much. Use de Gualle as an example… No flies on him… his wife, children and mistress and child all attended his funeral. Of course Kennedy was a philanderer and we kinda agreed and allowed. Admired him? No one made a stink of it. According to reports , the Kennedy family had a history/ tradition of womanising. Old Joe was a whoremonger and philandered with the elite and royals of many nations.
I do not worry about one’s private life. But rather the evidence of ability.
Again, Jimmy Carter as an example… a great human. A fine man. A fine father, etc. But a shitty president. Economically, internationally, domestically… he sucked.
Trumpster is making the numbers dance. You, as an economist, must agree there is something to his madness… employment, economically, etc… he is kicking goals.
Mind you I am not a fan of free-trade. My study of such tells me there is no such thing as free -anything. Someone has to pay and its usually over the past few years its been the USA. All in the name of globalisation. Of course the major planetary industries pull the majority of the strings. Remember Milo Mindbender in catch 22?
I think “global warming” is the next best scam since YK2000. The world is spending extra to have “green tech”. Fossil fuels are affordable, readily available, and makes perfect sense. But we are being belligered into thinking coal is dirty and we need to sell it all to China so they can make cheap steel.
My experience teaches that political movers and shakers will stoop to any low to gain their prerequisites.
I join no teams. Not yet. Maybe, perhaps, someday a candidate will come along that is worthy of my vote… noting I get to vote in 3 countries these days. Maybe one day I’ll pop my voter’s-cherrie.
You watch Aussie politics? There have been 6 PMs in the last 10 years. Avg tenure of less than 2 years each. And people wonder why nothing gets done.
Lets not mention the Solomons and their own personal style of democracy/ kleptocracy.
And the beat goes on
Smiles
